A group of 11 youth delegates traveled to UNHQ to represent UNA-Canada at the 69th Commission on the Status of Women in March 2025. Our delegates ensured a productive schedule while in New York, bearing witness to the conference’s proceedings and organizing our first ever parallel event to a UN conference. The goal of the side event was to create a forum of global voices that reinforces leadership and impact. Additionally, they also generated policy proposals to address the many ways in which gender inequality is holding the world back.
You can find an excerpt from the third of those proposals below, along with a link to view the full policy outline.
Global Kinship: Youth Exchange for Indigenous Solidarity
Brianna Wilson and Avery Martin
"Global Kinship" is a transformative cultural exchange and allyship initiative uniting Indigenous youth from the Philippines, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. This program fosters deep cultural immersion through community stays, traditional workshops, and collaborative projects, empowering participants to build lasting allyship and advocate for Indigenous rights. Regional youth policy forums provide platforms for direct engagement with policymakers, while community-driven initiatives promote cultural preservation and address local needs. "Te Hononga" aims to cultivate a powerful network of future leaders, fostering transnational solidarity and driving positive change through mutual understanding and collaborative action, all while prioritizing Indigenous leadership and cultural respect.
