A group of 11 youth delegates traveled to UNHQ to represent UNA-Canada at the 69th Commission on the Status of Women in March 2025. Our delegates ensured a productive schedule while in New York, bearing witness to the conference’s proceedings and organizing our first ever parallel event to a UN conference. The goal of the side event was to create a forum of global voices that reinforces leadership and impact. Additionally, they also generated policy proposals to address the many ways in which gender inequality is holding the world back.

You can find an excerpt from the second of those proposals below, along with a link to view the full policy outline.

Safer Online Dating Laws: Combating Exploitation and Harassment with Policy Reform and Campus Activism

Asha Jama

Objective of Policy

The primary aim of this proposal is to urge stricter legal protections and policies against online dating sites to prevent exploitation, harassment, and trafficking. The proposal also aims to empower students with the tools and information to protect themselves online.

This initiative hopes to create a safer space for students on and off campus by filling in gaps in existing laws and policies, particularly as they relate to online dating. The proposal also hopes to shift campus culture away from one that facilitates exploitation to one that promotes a culture of consent and safety.
