Fundraising & Marketing Manager

Job summary:​

  • UNA-Canada’s core programming is dependent on contributions from foundations, corporations and individuals, including our members and supporters across Canada. The Fundraising & Marketing (FR&M) Manager will be a key focal point for all the organizations’ marketing and fundraising efforts. They will work alongside and report directly to the CEO, who is a seasoned fundraiser/marketer himself. The selected candidate will be responsible for running special fundraising campaigns, liaising with donors and members, and providing oversight for fundraising and donor engagement. The FR&M Manager will also actively support the organization’s major fundraising events and produce high quality marketing collateral to support all philanthropic efforts.

  • The position is ideal for a creative fundraiser and relationship engagement professional looking to make a difference through a variety of fundraising efforts from major donors, corporate sponsorship, and direct mail campaigns. As the main contact point with our donors, you will be on the frontline of our work to bring global issues to Canadians through events and activities based on United Nations Days and national events of global relevance. The selected candidate will work side by side with the Communications Officer and our contracted Database Admin consultant. The FR&M Manager will be part of the organization’s Management Team working closely with the Senior Management Team.

Responsibilities:​

  • Lead UNA-Canada’s individual giving programme: annual campaign planning, design and execution (and learning/evaluation)

  • Plan and oversee donor acquisition and stewardship programmes

  • Create and implement the organization’s Direct Mail (DM), email and digital fundraising campaigns

  • Develop and implement social media strategies (channels, content, frequency) together with the CEO and the Communications Officer

  • Participate in website optimization to maximize fundraising and brand awareness growth together with the Communications Officer and senior management

  • Manage our donor information and reporting (Salesforce) with the support of our Database Admin consultant

  • Conduct a deep dive (data mining) into our donor data to identify potential mid-level and major donors (existing and lapsed)

  • Act as the key Project Manager for all our key fundraising events like the Global Citizen Award Gala

  • Support the CEO in growing our major Donor and Corporate giving portfolios: data, research, presentations, etc.

  • Build, design and produce a Case for Support (for philanthropic efforts) together with senior Management Team

  • Explore other opportunities, like employee giving and legacy fundraising program

  • Partner with designated agencies and volunteers to grow support and increase revenue

  • Enable and inspire existing and new volunteers to help boost our presence in Canada

  • Assist with other administrative and fundraising tasks as needed

Qualifications and Experience:​

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field

  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in fundraising, marketing, philanthropy, creative services and/or member / donor relations

  • Familiarity and experience in digital fundraising with relative results to show

  • DM and e-mail fundraising campaign writing, design and execution experience

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both in-person and through virtual channels – including on the phone

  • Creativity, especially in producing high-end visual presentations

  • Ambitious, “can-do” self-driven team player

  • Comfortable operating in the unknown and building things

  • Sharp, analytical and strategic thinker

  • Initiative and follow-through are a must

  • CRM / fundraising fluency software knowhow (Salesforce preferred)

  • Experience working as part of a remote team across Canada

  • Good project management and written and verbal communication skills

  • Working in or with a not-for profit preferred, but not required.

  • Experience in event management a positive

  • English is the primary working language but a knowledge of French a plus

Project Officer, Green School Volunteers Across Canada

  • Full-time from June 1, 2025 to 31 March, 2026, with one year renewal opportunity

About the project:​

  • Green School Volunteers Across Canada will activate youth through the creation of Eco-Clubs to promote civic engagement through meaningful service opportunities while offering youth valuable skills to benefit them in life and work. Additionally, the project will enhance youth’s readiness for leadership roles and community participation through environmental sustainability projects aligned with issues that youth are passionate about. Project activities will be delivered in Ontario (Ottawa-Toronto), Alberta, and British Columbia.

Responsibilities:​

  • Contribute to the successful delivery of the project known as Green School Volunteers Across Canada under the leadership of the senior team and the project manager;

  • Assist with project implementation to successfully meet the funders' targets, while meaningfully engaging the youth participants of the project. The project targets involve the creation / enhancement of 24 Eco-Clubs, which will engage 240 youth that will offer 120 community service hours each.

  • Participate in the planning and logistical coordination of community engagement roundtables;

  • Reach out to teachers, schools and school boards with the goal of recruiting 24 youth leaders within schools to develop or enhance 24 Eco-Clubs;

  • Assist the 24 recruited youth leaders in engaging an additional 240 youth volunteers. These volunteers should include Indigenous youth and youth in under-served communities, who will participate in the development and enhancement of the Eco-Clubs;

  • Create resources such as online workshop, guidebook, and a three day in-person workshop in collaboration with subject matter experts in areas such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Indigenous engagement and environmental sustainability;

  • Assist in planning and delivering online training sessions, including logistics management;

  • Assist the youth leaders and youth volunteers in planning engaging environmental activities including sustainability audits, trash clean ups, and tree planting;

  • Regularly meet the youth leaders and youth volunteers to offer support on the continued development of the Eco-Clubs' mission and goals;

  • Track the number of community service engagement hours by all youth;

  • Assist with the planning and logistics of the in-person three day regional workshops;

  • Assist in writing of reports and tracking of data as required by the funder.

  • Proven experience in event organization;

  • Proven experience in data collection and management;

  • Proven experience engaging youth from under-served communities;

  • University degree in Education or relevant experience in the social sciences;

  • Sensitivity to working with academic administrators, teachers, and diverse cultural communities and families;

  • Strong interpersonal skills and understanding of Canada’s diversity;

  • Strong attention to detail;

  • Ability to work as a member of a team;

  • Excellent communication skills.

Résumé de projet :​

  • Le bassin du lac Tchad abrite des sites RAMSAR critiques qui nécessitent des efforts de réhabilitation urgents pour restaurer leur santé et leur fonctionnalité écologiques. Financé par Affaires mondiales Canada, le projet de conservation du bassin du lac Tchad d’ALINEA vise à renforcer la résilience climatique des écosystèmes marginalisés et des communautés structurellement vulnérables au changement climatique. En mettant l’accent sur les femmes et les jeunes, l’équipe du projet appliquera des solutions climatiques basées sur la nature dans six sites de zones humides RAMSAR dans le bassin du lac Tchad au Cameroun, au Niger et au Tchad.

  • Alors que la dégradation de l’environnement menace les moyens de subsistance et exacerbe les effets négatifs du changement climatique, le conflit dans le bassin du lac Tchad reste une crise complexe due à une combinaison de facteurs, notamment la dégradation de l’environnement, les défis socio-économiques et l’insurrection. La pression sur l’environnement a alimenté la pauvreté et le chômage, créant un terrain fertile pour les groupes extrémistes qui exploitent les griefs et recrutent des membres. L’insurrection a entraîné une violence généralisée, des déplacements de population et des crises humanitaires, des millions de personnes étant confrontées à l’insécurité alimentaire et à un accès insuffisant aux services de base.

  • La Commission du bassin du lac Tchad (CBLT) a joué un rôle central dans les efforts de consolidation de la paix dans la région, en se concentrant sur la promotion de la coopération entre les États membres — le Cameroun, le Tchad, le Niger et le Nigeria — tout en relevant les défis complexes de l’insécurité, de la dégradation de l’environnement et de l’instabilité socio-économique. Au-delà de la sécurité, la CBLT promeut le développement durable et la gestion des ressources pour s’attaquer aux causes profondes des conflits, telles que la pauvreté et la concurrence pour des ressources rares. La Commission donne également la priorité au dialogue et à l’inclusion, en impliquant les communautés locales, la société civile et les partenaires internationaux pour renforcer la gouvernance, la résilience et l’intégration régionale en tant que voies vers une paix et une stabilité durables.

  • Pour soutenir le travail de la Commission, le projet renforcera la capacité des organisations de femmes et de jeunes au Cameroun, au Tchad et au Niger à participer à des dialogues sur la consolidation de la paix environnementale visant à réduire les conflits, à lutter contre le changement climatique et à préserver la biodiversité

 

Principaux résultats visés :​

  • L’objectif principal de cette consultation est de renforcer la capacité des femmes et des jeunes leaders à s’engager, à développer et à promouvoir une approche de consolidation de la paix environnementale au Tchad, au Cameroun et au Niger. Les responsabilités du consultant engloberont les tâches suivantes :

    • Examiner les actions et activités existantes dans le cadre de l’objectif 25 de la stratégie de stabilisation régionale menée par la CBLT, y compris l’identification des parties prenantes, des organisations et des groupes pertinents.

    • Développer et dispenser une formation pour les femmes et les jeunes sur la construction de la paix environnementale adaptée au contexte régional.

    • Élaborer et valider un guide pour les formateurs et les facilitateurs afin d’étendre l’application des approches de consolidation de la paix environnementale.

    • Soutenir un sommet régional pour les jeunes visant à échanger des expériences et à renforcer les capacités en matière de consolidation de la paix environnementale et à élaborer une charte de la jeunesse pour la paix.

    • Appui technique au programme canadien de stages pour les jeunes afin d’aider les organisations du Cameroun, du Tchad et du Niger à mettre en œuvre des activités de consolidation de la paix environnementale, notamment par le biais de stages pour les jeunes au sein du CBLT.

  • Le consultant devra fournir les résultats suivants en collaboration avec l’équipe :

    • ​Un rapport succinct d’environ 5 pages résumant les progrès réalisés dans la mise en œuvre de l’objectif 25 de la stratégie de stabilisation régionale, y compris une liste des principales parties prenantes et organisations.

    • Du matériel de formation de base sur les approches et les stratégies de consolidation de la paix environnementale comprenant : un guide complet d’environ 15 à 30 pages, de courtes brochures et des notes d’information sur les concepts clés de la consolidation de la paix environnementale, des présentations à utiliser dans les ateliers de formation et par les formateurs dans les organisations concernées, et une liste de ressources supplémentaires pour les formateurs.

    • Trois ateliers nationaux de formation des formateurs pour les femmes et les jeunes sur la construction de la paix environnementale.

    • Un sommet régional de la jeunesse qui a débouché sur une charte de la construction de la paix environnementale.

Qualifications clés:​

Le consultant doit posséder les qualifications suivantes :​

  • La maitrise d’un excellent français à l’oral et à l’écrit est requise

  • Une connaissance approfondie de la construction de la paix dans le domaine de l’environnement

  • Une compréhension de la manière dont le changement climatique et la dégradation de l’environnement alimentent les conflits

  • Une expérience dans l’utilisation des dialogues sur le changement climatique et la gestion durable des ressources naturelles comme voies d’accès à des dialogues plus larges sur la paix.

  • Expérience de travail avec des groupes et organisations de femmes et de jeunes

  • Expérience de l’organisation et de l’animation d’ateliers

  • Capacité à s’engager et à collaborer efficacement avec diverses parties prenantes, notamment des représentants du gouvernement, des communautés locales et des organisations non gouvernementales.

Project Officer, Building Young Professionals

About the project:​

  • The Building Young Professionals (BYP) Programme is a training and mentorship programme that provides multi-barriered youth (ages 20-29) across Canada with the skills, work experience, and professional networks to improve their employability and success in the workforce of today and tomorrow. The programme provides the essential tools and techniques needed to gain meaningful employment and excel in the workplace.

  • BYP focuses on green jobs of the future and meeting the increasing demand for talented, motivated and passionate young Canadians to fuel responsible growth. In addition to programme management tasks, the selected candidate will deliver training on climate change and nature-based climate solutions to programme participants.

 

Responsibilities:​

  • Review background material on the programme and become familiar with its goals, targeted demographics and expected outcomes;

  • Support BYP participants as appropriate as they gain employment skills through training, networking opportunities and an experiential weekend;

  • Broaden the mentorship opportunities for programme participants and update existing database of mentors;

  • Work closely with the Programme Manager to widely promote the programme among appropriate networks;

  • Collaborate on devising a plan to re-engage existing programme alumni by tapping in their experience and networks;

  • Plan and oversee participant engagement including recruitment, training and onboarding;

  • Identify and support partnership development with subject matter experts, non-profits and businesses to host and mentor participating youth as aspiring business actors in the green industry;

  • Assist with logistics of the in-person training weekend and online workshop sessions;

  • Manage the preparation of briefing and training material for non-profit and business-hosts, subject matter experts and mentors to participating youth;

  • Compile data, lessons learned and promising practices on the programme that can be shared with funders, youth-serving agencies and other partners to promote youth sustainable employment in Canada and abroad;

  • Prepare regular updates and reports on programme progress and record lessons learned, challenges encountered and promising practices to consider and share internally with UNA-Canada teams;

  • Assist with researching and writing funding/grant proposals; and

  • Conduct any other activities related to the effective and efficient implementation of the project, and as requested.
