Who Are We
UNA-Canada is an historic national civil society organization and registered charity with the mandate to educate and engage citizens on the work of the United Nations and global issues that affect us all. In other words, our mandate is to bring the UN to life here in Canada.
As a leading voice on multilateralism in Canada, our work is framed by three guiding priorities:
Priority 1:
Advocate for the most effective UN, and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and UN principles
Increase Canadians' awareness of the UN's work and its importance through our advocacy, convening power, and awareness-raising campaigns.
Priority 2:
Grow Global Citizens
Mobilize Canadians to grow global citizens by empowering youth through education, mentorship, experiential learning, and leadership training.
Priority 3:
Build Common Ground
Serve as a bridge-builder across Canada to help the leaders of tomorrow craft shared solutions to shared challenges through a range of programmes that unite Canadians from all walks of life.
Our national office advances these priorities and the UN’s mission across the country, while our network of volunteer-led branches builds change from the ground up on a more local level.
What We Do
We achieve our mission through a range of programmes implemented here in Canada that celebrate diversity, empathy-based learning and solution-seeking opportunities to shared challenges. Our work elevates the universal principles of the UN Charter and our programmes equip Canadians of all backgrounds with the knowledge, skills, and networks to thrive in a world we all want to live in.
These grassroots programmes build alliances across sectors and generations to ensure that Canada achieves the objectives laid out in the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with a particular focus on the SDGs laid out below.

Our Work
UNA-Canada engages citizens and decision-makers at every level of Canadian society. We invest across generations, bringing empathy-based educational resources on health, citizen education, diversity, peace and the environment to youth from advantaged to multi-barriered communities within Canada and in the world’s low and middle-income countries.
We meet our mandate primarily through a national network of Branches, volunteers and programmes that inspire and mobilize Canadians in support of the principles and critical work of the UN. By growing global citizens, we are building a stronger, more outward looking Canada ready to accept the greatest challenges of our time.
