Global Citizens Award Laureate

UNA-Canada is proud to honour and pay special tribute to unique and ambitious models of leadership. We recognize our Laureates for their positive vision for a better world, starting in Canadian communities, and for their outstanding and generous commitment to children and youth, education, health and wellness and social growth and stability not only for individuals, but for whole communities

UNA-Canada is pleased to announce that Walied Soliman is our 2019 Global Citizen Laureate.

Walied Soliman, Global Chair and Canadian Chair of Norton Rose Fulbright, has achieved prominence as a corporate lawyer and the only lawyer featured in the Globe and Mail's Report on Business Magazine’s Power 50 for 2017. He has been acknowledged many times by his peers for his professional excellence. For Mr. Soliman, his Muslim faith defines and inspires every aspect of his life, both professionally and personally.

In the workplace, Mr. Soliman has been a leader in promoting and encouraging diversity, not only at his own firm but in Canadian businesses generally. His reasons are philosophical: he believes that Canada is strengthened when advancement is open to all citizens, regardless of sex and race. As a lawyer who has been involved in almost every major proxy battle in Canada for the past several years, his reasons are also intensely practical, to ensure success for his clients by recruiting the very best and widest talents, without artificial limits on where these abilities may be found.

Mr. Soliman’s interests, influence and faith extend far beyond commerce. From January 2016 until January 2018 he served as chair of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party’s election campaign. Among other philanthropic endeavours, he serves as a member of the board of Toronto’s SickKids Hospital Foundation. Mr. Soliman lives in Toronto with his wife Deena and their children. He and his wife have been involved in numerous philanthropic efforts across the country to assist disadvantaged Canadians.

Join us at the Global Citizens Dinner 2019 for an evening celebrating Walied Soliman, along with other global citizens, business and community leaders, friends, partners and colleagues.
