The World Summit
on Sustainable Development (WSSD) was a ten-year follow
up of the UN Conference on Environment and Development, and
also built on the outcomes of milestone conferences, such as
the Millennium Summit or the G8 Summit in Kananskis, that have
occurred along the way in past years.
The WSSD was the impetus for the Youth
Agenda 2002 project, and allowed the Youth Summit Team, as well
as many other youth in Canada to effectively contribute to the
entire process of the Summit, including the follow-up.
Here you will find an outline of youth
involvement in the WSSD, an overview of the Rio and Johannesburg
Summits, archives of daily coverage from Johannesburg, as well
as information about other key conferences that led up to the
WSSD.
