Feedback from Participants
At the end of each forum, participants were asked to complete
an evaluation form commenting on the weekend. The evaluation
questionnaires asked participants to assess their information
acquisition, satisfaction with outcomes, motivation at the close
of the event, and the 'safety' or comfort of the event for discussing
racism. Participants were also asked how they would change the
Forum if it were to run again. Their responses to six key questions
are summarised in the evaluation
analysis.
The vast majority of participants (83%) reported feeling that
the Forum provided a comfortable space for speaking out about
racism, and 77 percent felt that the Forum contributed to their
knowledge of racism issues in Canada. Eighty-five percent reported
being motivated and better prepared to engage in anti-racism
education at the close of the event, and 86 percent felt that
the Forum's outcomes - strategies and tools for anti-racism
education - were timely, appropriate, and effective.
Many participants, in their qualitative statements, reported
feeling empowered, inspired, and connected with other youth.
The most common recommendation for change was for the forums
to be longer. A number of participants also wished to learn
more about the history of racism in Canada.
We encourage you to look at their comments and recommendations,
a sampling of which is found in the
evaluation analysis. If you are a YFAR participant or a
guest to the website and wish to comment on the YFAR initiative,
the KIT, the website or, well, anything, let us know your thoughts!
