For 60 years, the blue and white flag of the
United Nations has flown high. The United Nations Association in Canada (UNA-Canada),
in partnership with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), and
regional branches, marks the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the UN during
the fall of 2005. UNA-Canada invites all Canadians to join us in celebrating
this achievement, and to commit their support to the work
and challenges the world body faces in delivering aid and development programmes
to the most bereft and neglected peoples of the world
In the past 15 years alone, the U.N. has brought about the end to more civil
wars through negotiation and diplomacy than any organization in the
previous 200. It has brought hope and care to billions of the world's
citizens. It has empowered men and women of all nationalities, religions
and races, allowing them to stand shoulder to shoulder to help those
in need. Since 1945, the United Nations has given us the ability to
look beyond what is, and instead look toward what could be.
