United Nations Association Summit Concerning the War in Ukraine

This morning, I joined leaders of United Nations Associations from 14 countries in a summit on the war in Ukraine convened by the United Nations Association in Poland.

Colleagues in Poland updated us on the situation in Medica and Kortowo on the Polish-Ukrainian border as well as the messages they’re receiving from inside Ukraine. I heard of the generosity of the Polish people who are travelling in droves to donate money, supplies, and medicine to the welcome centres receiving Ukrainian refugees. I heard from UN Associations in countries who have their own historic experience with war with Russia who know the costs of conflict. I heard from those in touch with Russian’s opposed to the war delivering messages of hope.

I also heard an affirmation from those on the ground, that Ukraine will have UN support every step of the way. The UN will work to protect the rights of the people of Ukraine, continuing the actions conducted in partnership with the people and Government of Ukraine for decades.

On behalf of UNA-Canada I pledge our support for the people of Ukraine and the UN staff and partners who have worked tirelessly towards peace and equality in Ukraine. I endorse and share the attached joint statement from the United Nations Association Summit Concerning the War in Ukraine.
