Jessica Helwig Represents Canada at the UN HLPF

Jessica Helwig, a UNA-Canada staffer, represented Canada as the youth representative in the official Canadian Delegation for this year's High Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development. The HLPF, held at the UN Headquarters in New York from July 9th-18th, 2019, has a central role in the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

As part of its follow-up and review mechanisms, member states conduct regular and inclusive reviews of progress at the national and sub-national levels. These voluntary national reviews (VNRs) aim to facilitate the sharing of experiences, including successes, challenges and lessons learned, with a view to accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

Jessica is part of the team working on UNA-Canada youth-led civic engagement project, Generation SDG. Generation SDG is a bilingual service initiative with the goal to activate civic engagement through the creation of local volunteer projects related to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
