Exhibition on John Humphrey and Human Rights Tapestry

Brief Description: Every summer, the Canadian Human Rights Foundation offers a three-week International Human Rights Training Programme intended for NGO’s involved in the advancement of human rights issues. This year’s Programme will bring together about 120 participants from approximately 35 countries. Within the context of the Programme, the CHRF is organizing a Networking Forum with the objective of facilitating the sharing of ideas and resources. Each organization will have a table to display materials, present programmes or objectives and respond to questions. Symposium: The Artist and Human Rights - Act I: Affirmation

Brief Description: This symposium is organized jointly by the NAC and the University of Ottawa, and brings together many poets, writers, journalists, musicians, philosophers and political critics to celebrate the role of arts in the promotion and defense of Human Rights.
Act 1- Affirmation:There will be Opening Remarks by Jean Riley (NAC Board of Trustees) and John Cripton (Director and CEO, NAC), and then an Opening Performance by the Kanata Native Dance Theatre and Inti-Illimani, a Chilean music ensemble. Keynote speakers will be John Polanyi (scientist and Nobel Prize laureate), Justice Richard J. Goldstone (Constitutional Court of South Africa).

Symposium: The Artist and Human Rights - Act III- Conciliation

Brief Description: This is Act III - Reconciliation that starts with a picnic lunch and music with Saint-Coeur de Marie Choir. It then continues with the topic What is the role of the journalist? with panellists that include Francine Pelletier (CBC TV) and Bob Carty (CBC Radio). The last topic will be The Different Voices of Art and a New Conversation: Reconciliation for a new Millennium with a plenary address that will be given by philosopher and author John Ralston Saul. On Saturday night there will be the Reconciliation symphony including Joy Kogawa, writer, Dionne Brand, poet and Tomson Highway, playwright. The symposium will end with a concluding address by Rajmohan Gandhi, academic and writer, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.

Symposium: The Artist and Human Rights - Presentation and Video

The Accidental Death of an Anarchist

Brief Description: Derechos Human Rights is an on-line based, international organization working for the respect and promotion of human rights and international humanitarian law all over the world. They are also dedicated to helping local NGO’s and activists in their work. They now announce the publication of a new periodic newsletter “Without impunity”. It is an on-line publication geared towards human rights activists, professionals and people interested in human rights issues. It offers information, news, and opinions about human rights violations worldwide and provides tools for improving activist skills and opportunities for action.
