High School Video Competition

What Does United Nations Peacekeeping Mean to You?

From Sept. – Dec. 2006, UNA-Canada put out a national call to Canadian high school students to create a video on “What does UN peacekeeping mean to you?” as part of our project to mark the 50th Anniversary of UN Peacekeeping. About 50 submissions were sent in from high schools across Canada. Youth are clearly proud of Canada’s history of multilateralism, and are anxious to learn more.

The judging panel consisted of Hannah Simone, host of MuchMusic’s MuchNews & The NewMusic; Sasha Trudeau, Canadian Filmmaker; and Loree Semeluk, UNA-Canada youth rep. The Top 3 prize winners were honoured and presented with their prizes at the Opening Ceremonies of UNA-Canada’s Canadian International Model UN Conference in Ottawa on March 7, 2007, featuring Lt. Gen. Andrew Leslie, Chief of the Land Staff, Canadian Forces; Hannah Simone, Host of MuchMusic’s MuchNews and The NewMusic; and Sook-Yin Lee, Host of CBC’s Definitely Not the Opera. All winners hail from BC.
