Event Name: Paper Cranes
Date: Until January 1, 2000
Organization Thousand Cranes Peace Network
Event Location: Global.  Paper cranes can be sent to various Peace Parks and Monuments around the world. There is an event organized by the UNA-Canada Toronto Branch
Brief Description: The idea is for individuals, family groups, or school groups to fold a thousand paper cranes as an expression of hope of a world at peace. The origin of the paper crane as a symbol of peace lies with the story of Sadako Sasaki. Sadako suffered from leukemia as an effect of the exposure to the atomic bomb on Hiroshima when she was two years old. During her treatment, she started folding a thousand paper cranes so that her wish for good health would come true. She died before completing her task.
