3rd World Water Forum
Description:
As was the case with the 2nd Forum, the 3rd Forum will provide an opportunity for technical or regional organizations which are actively involved with water problems to present their perspectives in free discussions. It is expected that those organizations which took part in topic and regional discussions at the 2nd World Water Forum and in the resultant framing of the World Water Vision will make substantial comments and contributions regarding concrete follow-up to these discussions. Participant organizations new to the World Water Forum series will surely raise new issues, prompting discussion and action.
Furthermore, the Forum will provide not only a place for the expression of opinions in each sector, but also for discussion across sectors and regions. Major panels will allow major stakeholders to discuss perspectives on and approaches to water problems.

Art for Peace project
Description:
Every year we choose one subject in support of PEACE in Canada and the world. The project for 2002 was On the Trajedy of September 11-2001 in NY.
Hundreds of people visited the Art Exhibition in Artpars Gallery in Park Royal of West Vancouver on Sep 12 26, where 16 Multicultural Artists participated in. It was very well received by the visitors from all over the Lower Mainland.
25% of the sale will be paid to UNESCO or the Red Cross in Canada. The on-line Exhibition still is running on our website: www.artists-canada.ca . Our guest book has many comments in support of this Art Show.
No War is another exhibition of the kind where multicultural artists respond to the barbaric and cruel messages of the "New War" by entering the New Century and Millenium.

Cities and Globalization - Communities in a Changing World
Description:
Globalization has been generally viewed from the perspective of its perceived impact on nations, the economy and individuals. The summer 2002 Couchiching conference Cities and Globalization, will approach the issue through the lens of its impact on cities in both a domestic and global context.
What makes a successful city? Where are the successful cities internationally?
How are successful communities turning globalization to their advantage and mitigating its destructive effects? City-regions are summoning their energies to carve out an identity and maintain their historic role as economic engines, immigration melting-pots and cultural powerhouses in the midst of globalization phenomena such as migration, electronic funds transfer, organized crime, pollution, footloose jobs, Hollywood and Bollywood, terrorism, the Internet, communicable diseases, etc. In Canada, vibrant urban regions depend on more than municipal taxes to provide the infrastructure to support their vital contribution to national life; yet electoral realities bias senior levels of government against the needs of cities. What role can the people who live in these communities play?
These are some of the questions that will be addressed at this summers conference.

Connections 2002: Building a Culture of Peace
Description:
Building a culture of effective, constructive conflict resolution in families, in schools, in workplaces and in communities throughout Canada and beyond helps develop the conditions necessary for a safe and peaceful society. Since the eighties, Conflict Resolution Network Canada (The Network) and Family Mediation Canada (FMC) have been gathering people across Canada to discuss constructive ways to resolve conflict and to learn the latest in conflict resolution program innovations, research and the growing wisdom about effective conflict resolution practice.
On June 12 - 14, 2002, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, FMC and The Network will offer a joint national conference that will include in-depth presentations from experts, authors and practitioners in conflict resolution in every sphere of society. Participants in the conference will select from intensive workshops exploring the application of effective conflict resolution processes in: family disputes and inter-generational conflict, workplace conflict, school-based conflict, international issues, aboriginal and youth justice, to name a few.
This dynamic conference will enable conflict resolution practitioners and others throughout the country to gain a stronger understanding of constructive ways to work through conflict, to deepen their wisdom and better their practice, to the benefit of all.

G6B: The People's Summit
Description:
On June 26 & 27, 2002, the leaders of the world's most industrialized countries, the G8, will meet in Kananaskis, Alberta. They will make critical decisions that will have global impact. Past G8 Summits have consistently failed to offer an effective means for individuals, civil society or even other states, to provide 'input' to, or engage in, meaningful dialogue with G8 leaders. / We believe, therefore, that an alternative forum, offering a means for the views and concerns of all of the world's peoples to be expressed and considered, is sorely needed. / As such, from June 21-25, 2002, the G6B (Group of 6 Billion -- reflecting the entire global citizenry) will be held in Calgary, offering a forum to generate and discuss ideas and solutions that will promote economic activities that are beneficial to people living in all parts of our world, but that also reflect full respect for human rights and the environment. / The G6B Conference will offer an alternative view of the planet's future; one which is not rooted in increased militarism and poverty, and decreased human and civil rights. Committed to bridging the divides and inequalities that exist between the developed and developing world, the conference will bring forward recommendations in six theme areas: trade & economy, human security, health, education, environment, democracy & governance. Importantly the G6B will consider concrete proposals and clear recommendations, which will be presented to G8 governments in the weeks and months leading up to the Summit -- effective, practical solutions, not just a litany of problems and complaints. / The Purposes of the Conference are: To figure as part of a long term campaign for global peace, justice and equality; To pay particular attention to the needs, challenges and aspirations of the peoples of Africa;
To foster public dialogue and participation on the issue of globalization in relation to social, economic and political well being, both individual and collective, from national and international perspectives; To make recommendations to G8 governments that will ensure equitable trade, protection of human rights and the environment, and sustainable development. The Conference will bring renowned speakers, respected experts, and activists from the frontlines of poverty and conflict, together with an anticipated audience of 500, to explore a number of crucial issues and recommendations within the G6B's six themes. Consistent with the priorities of the G8, all sessions will have a special focus on the issues of Africa. An Alberta-based ngo, the International Society for Peace and Human Rights (ISPHR), has taken the lead in organizing this conference and is now working with a steering committee made up of other national and local organizations including; Amnesty International, Partnership Africa Canada, Rights & Democracy, University of Calgary G8 office, and the Calgary African Community. We would like to invite all non-governmental organizations and individuals who share this philosophy and these beliefs, to join with us in this ambitious endeavor.
