Introduction

We feel that the world needs a plan to save itself, because virtually every square foot on Earth has an amount of man made pollution on it, this is why we chose to study pollution. It is really important that we start to clean up our world, not meaning that one person has to clean up the whole world, just clean up around your neighbourhood. If everybody would pitch in,we could clean our parks and streets (this also means that we would have to go just a little out of our way to get that paper bag or can in the trash).

Also we must do something about the factories that give off so much pollution to the air, oceans, lakes and hurt many fish and animals. This is why, in our project, we will hear about some of the solutions already happening and some that may be possible if we put our heads together.

News Article 1

This article is taking place in Lima, Peru. The problem is that the streets there are very polluted. The kids there are doing their best to clean it up and it is working a great deal. As of today the streets there are much cleaner.

News Article 2

In this article it talks about global warming and how Canada ranks worst in plans to save the environment. Global warming occurs everywhere on Earth, but more in some places than others. Everybody is affected by global warming because it's global! This is why we have to wear so much sun screen or else get bad burns, even on an average day!

In order to stop global warming we must stop polluting the air with greenhouse gases (like CO2). These gases act like a blanket around the Earth's surface, raising it's temperature. But power companies, coal miners, a powerful international lobby of industrialists, and others argue that high reductions will hurt the world's economies.

The United Nations has an Earth watch committee to notify governments of their country's environmental condition.

News Article 3

In this article, global warming is the main issue. Of course global warming is occurring everywhere, that's why it is called global! Global warming affects everyone, but is worse in different parts of the Earth. For instance, in Somalia they are getting floods and in Canada we are relieving scorching summers.

Also, in the article it adds that developing countries must help Third World countries switch to cleaner fuels and efficient technologies. Although not stated in the article, the U.N. has many environmental agencies. A group has been formed by many negotiators from different countries to discuss plans to save the world.

News Article 4

This article's problem is taking place in Ottawa and is about greenhouse emissions . The great number of greenhouse emissions in the air are polluting and causing global warming.. Groups there, are doing their best to make speeches to get people more aware of the problem. To get people to organise more car pools and to use their cars less are some of the points these groups are trying to put forth to the people. (like when the store is 5 minutes walking and you take a car).

News Article 5

The problem is about global warming created by man made gases. It is occurring mostly in poorer countries). Poorer countries are affected more because they don't have environmentalists and clean up crews. In Somalia massive floods are killing families and turning fertile farm land into desert. Killer storms are spreading diseases far beyond the hot zones that started them.

Earthwatch systems are measuring the Earth's atmosphere and collecting information on which to base international action. Programs are warning governments about the excess gases let out by certain plants so they can close them or clean them up. Earthwatch so happens to be a U.N. (United Nations) agency in the UNEP department. Other groups are surely involved as well but are unknown.

Response

Pollution is one of Earth's biggest problems, it is either a type of gas or some type of candy wrapper or can. The solutions that are being tried are many people and groups that convince people to think twice about polluting the earth. Most of these groups are very successful but some people just don't care about the Earth. In our opinion, there should be a bigger fine for littering or for some people, if very serious, be sent to jail. But if everyone could pick up some garbage once in a while the world could be much cleaner.

So be alert, if you see some trash pick it up and don't be a litterbug!!
