The What Kind of WorldÖ? workshops have extensive
curriculum fit for the following prescribed learning
outcomes (From the BC Social Studies Curriculum
(1998):

Grade 5
- identifying and clarifying
a problem;
- explaining citizenship in terms
of participation in the community, province,
country and world;
- demonstrating an understanding
of equality and fairness;
- demonstrating an understanding
of sustainability, stewardship, and renewable
versus non-renewable natural resources; and
- assessing the effects of lifestyle
on local and global environments.

Grade 6
- identifying and clarifying
a problem;
- describing ways social and
economic organizations satisfy needs and wants
in a variety of cultures;
- demonstrating an appreciation
of a variety of cultures to Canada and the world;
- comparing individual rights
and social responsibilities in various cultures;
- comparing systems of government
in selected countries;
- demonstrating an understanding
of global citizenship; and
- demonstrating an awareness
of United Nations' human rights initiatives.

- defending a position on a
global issue; and
- designing, implementing and
assessing detailed courses of action to address
global problems or issues.

- identifying factors that influence

cultural traditions and religions;
- demonstrating an understanding
of the tension between individual rights and
the responsibilities of citizens; and
- assessing the impact of contact,
conflict and conquest on civilizations.
