International Year of Older Persons 1999
Conceptual and operational framework of the United Nations
International Year of Older Persons 1999, including a description
of the UN logo, a calendar of UN events to mark the Year,
Countdown to 1999 - the UN IYOP newsletter, and links to
information about promoting a society for all ages. The UN
Principles for Older Persons and four themes of the Year are
presented, and it also lists government and non-government

The Government of Canada provides an excellent source of
information on Canadian IYOP initiatives and projects.
Federal and provincial government IYOP contacts, quotes on
ageing, statistics on seniors, a monthly calendar of national

Alberta
The Government of Alberta site lists information on IYOP activities in Alberta, including a Senior Friendly Toolkit produced by the Alberta Council on Aging, and an IYOP Events Bulletin Board on which people can post information on activities in their communities. English.Calgary

The Government of British Columbia outlines the province`s efforts to celebrate IYOP through encouraging communities to participate by listing various activities and a provincial calendar of events. English.Manitoba

The Ulyssean Society is a Toronto-based chartered non-profit organization with charitable status, with a chapter in Niagara-on-The-Lake, Ontario. There are about 250 members. The aim of the Society is to encourage older adults to carry on creative meaningful activities until the very end of the life journey. Education is promoted, including monthly program meetings at the University of Toronto with distinguished speakers. There are interest groups such as musical, book reading, discussion groups, excursions. Seminars are provided several times a year and a newsletter is issued every month. The Windsor-Essex County Chapter of the Canadian Association of Retired Persons site contains information about local events, links to other IYOP and related sites and describes a community Awards Program to recognize the contributions of older persons. English.Quebec
The Government of Quebec describes the establishment of a non-profit organization, the Bureau québécois de lAnnée internationale des personnes âgées, to promote and coordinate IYOP activities for the province. English, French, Spanish.Saskatchewan
The Government of Saskatchewan announces the creation of a Provincial Advisory Committee to the Minister Responsible for Seniors on International Year of Older Persons to coordinate IYOP fundraising and activities for the province, including a list of the members and contacts of the Committee. Australia
The Commonwealth of Australia Government provides a framework for the Year, national news releases on IYOP, links to national, local resources and a calendar of key events in Australia and internationally. English.Australian Coalition `99
The Australian Coalition`99 is a group of partner organizations, supported by the Commowealth Government of Australia, planning the non-government involvement in the IYOP. This site includes information on IYOP objectives and government, national, state and territory activities. English.Britain

New Zealand
The New Zealand site contains information on IYOP, a calendar of events, a list of IYOP projects funded by the government and suggestions of local activities. English.Sweden
Swedish site explains the background of IYOP and the government`s creation of an Elderly Policy Project that will implement a national action plan for the elderly and IYOP projects during the year, and also contains a number of fact sheets about issues affecting older persons in Sweden. English.
