Most Canadians would agree that all children have the right to live in a healthy environment. What’s more, the United Nations declares that it is the right of the child to have the highest attainable standard of health possible.
Explore the many factors that make Healthy Children and Healthy Communities. Join UNA-Canada and 9-12 year old Canadians as we contribute to the development of healthy communities across the country. Let’s empower children to identify their vision of a healthy life and take action on middle childhood health. We can do this by exchanging knowledge together with all Canadians.

Report Description
Over the past year, the United Nations Association in Canada (UNA-Canada) has visited urban and rural communities across the country listening to children and child health stakeholders voice their opinions on the social and economic factors that affect children's health. Through community roundtables and surveys, they have exchanged perceptions and priorities on factors like income, housing, social supports, racism, education, gender and the built environment. Linking in with the physical, emotional and mental sides of health, we have covered a complex field of interconnected issue such as risk behaviour, obesity, emotional wellbeing and stress. Examining the latter for example, we’ve found that 77% of surveyed adults agree that children today are under more stress than in the past, likewise 62% of children said that they worry about family and 40% worry about life. These answers are even more interesting when disaggregated by economic statuses, ethnic groups and geography.
If you would like to receive a hard copy of the report it can be printed and shipped to you for 25$ canadian dollars. Please simply send us a note via our contact page.
