Programme of Work 2002 > Partnerships

Ce document est disponible seulement en anglais.

As a non-governmental organization working towards international peace and cooperation, the United Nations Association in Canada has an obligation to form strong partnerships with those pursuing or interested in similar goals, whether they be other NGOs, government agencies, corporations, foundations or individuals. Building strong partnerships with like-minded groups ensures the cross-sectoral support and knowledge-sharing necessary for strong, high-quality projects and programmes. At the same time, it allows UNA-Canada to avoid duplicating existing efforts and affords the Association the ability to lend its support to groups or projects which it values.

Ensuring strong partnerships with funders is also essential in reducing the donor/recipient mentality that often leads to unproductive relationships. It is essential that UNA-Canada perceives its funders as partners in a common cause, rather than simply as money-givers. Through developing these relationships, funders will likewise begin to perceive UNA-Canada as more of a partner than a dependent younger sibling.

The following priorities will act as a guide for building strong partnerships in 2002:

  • developing personalized relationships with individuals within funding bodies;
  • ensuring strong communication and knowledge-sharing with funding bodies, both inside and outside the formal reporting process;
  • ensuring high-quality, complete and on-time financial and narrative reports to funding bodies;
  • cultivating personalized and professional relationships with NGOs, government agencies, individuals, foundations and corporations which work in similar areas as UNA-Canada;
  • broadly sharing relevant information related to UNA-Canada projects and programmes with existing and potential partners;
  • contributing to the work and operations of the World Federation of United Nations Associations and building relations with other UNAs.
  • pursuing a high degree of professionalism in forming and maintaining relationships with partners; and
  • avoiding undue competitiveness and secrecy with existing or potential partners.
