Kristy Manuliak « While at Bread for the World Institute, I mainly did research and analysis of global hunger issues. I wrote for publication in the annual Hunger Report and was involved in early stages of the production process. I was also a liaison point for public inquiries, disseminating information as needed. In addition, I worked with the Washington Working Group on Food Security in Developing a NGO version of the US Plan of Action on Food Security. » (1997-98 Internship) Upon completion of her internship, Kristy was offered a contract at Bread for the World as the Development Associate for Institutional Giving. Shannon Field « For eight months I worked as an intern at the UN Staff College in Turin, Italy for the International Peace and Security Cluster. I was involved in three main Projets at the UN Staff College. I organized the first Emergency Field Coordination Workshop for UN country teams of the Great Lakes region of central Africa, with a focus on post-conflict reconstruction. I was also involved in the preliminary research for an African Peacekeeping Training Initiative. My responsibilities also entailed facilitating and evaluating a course on peacekeeping, human rights and humanitarian assistance in conjunction with UNDPKO, OHCHR, and UNHCR. My internship with the United Nations in Italy led to a contract with an NGO called the Foundation for Global Dialogue (FGD) in Johannesburg, South Africa. » (1997-98 Internship) Shannon is now working with the Parliamentary Centre for Foreign Affairs in Ottawa as the Africa Programme Assistant. Julie Cavanagh « J’étais à Brasilia pour seconder le directeur de l’ONG Agora dans ses nouvelles tâches de Secrétaire général du Forum Global pour la Sécurité alimentaire et Nutritionnelle durable. J’avais aussi comme responsabilité de faire avancer le projet du Réseau des Peuples de Langue portugaise pour la sécurité alimentaire (Rede Dia mundial da alimentaçao-povo de lingua portuguesa). Je travaille maintenant comme agent de dossier pour Equipe Canada au Ministère des Affaires étrangères et du Commerce international. Jérôme Mellon UNDP Kosovo 2004-2005. Jérôme currently works for Saferworld as an Intelligence and Security Specialist, based in Pristina (Kosovo) and London (United Kingdom) Kadia Petricca Kadia was a JPC at UNDP Ethiopia from 2004-2005; she is currently pursuing PhD in Health Policy, Management and Evaluation - the focus of which is international health care and systems management. Steve Munroe As a JPC with UNDP Sri Lanka from 2004 to March 2005, Steve launched his career into the UN system. He stayed with UNDP Sri Lanka as a Programme Officer on a UNV contract until December 2006. In January 2007 he started working as a Programme Manager with UNDP Cambodia for Mine Action. Ritu Prasad As a JPC with UNHCR Geneva in 2000, Ritu continues to work in Geneva as a counselor for witnesses in the Victims and Witnesses Section at the ICTY(International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia). Natasha Mistry Natasha started her career as a JPC at UNV Bonn from 2000 to 2001; she continues to work as a Programme Officer for several projects in the Governance field at UNDP Albania. "I was a DFAIT funded JPC in 2000-2001 sent to UN Volunteers headquarters in Bonn, Germany. That six month opportunity has been a launching pad to an interesting career in development and local governance with UNDP for almost six years. The UN has greatly benefited from this programme." Chris Sidler JPC 2007-2008 UNDP Tanzania - Working in London working for Promontory Financial Group. Most of the work will be consulting for financial institutions that areoperating in economic sanctions (e.g. diamond transactions, oil in Niger delta etc). "I honestly can't speak highly enough of the experience I've had here. I was offered two positions at Foreign Affairs - I have no doubt that the UNAC placement was a major factor in getting these offers." - Chris Sidler |
