UN Professional Placements (UNPP) Programme

The Application Process


Eligibility Requirements

UNA-Canada is seeking candidates who:

1. are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada;
2. are a graduate of a post-secondary institution with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree;
3. have a proven interest in international development/affairs*;
4. would be accepted to the programme by both UNA-Canada and the UN host organization following a suitability interview.

Please note that, unlike our former IYIP programme, there are no upper age restrictions and neither previous participation in a Canadian government funded Internship programme nor previous paid work experience abroad does NOT disqualify you.

* This programme accepts applicants from many disciplines including: international affairs (relations), peacekeeping and peacebuilding, political science, economics, history, women's studies, public policy, geography, environmental studies, anthropology, sociology, law, languages, etc. Applicants should demonstrate that they have an active interest in the work of the United Nations and UN-related issues.

2. There is space at the end of the document for you to type in, or attach, your cover letter and CV.
3. Please save this form to your computer or disk as "firstname.lastname.application.doc".
4. Please remember to include your cover letter and CV in the application form.

How Will the Application Process Evolve?

Step  
1. Complete and return the UNPP Application Form;
2. UNA-Canada will e-mail you to confirm receipt of your application;
3. Following an initial application screening, UNA-Canada will contact you by phone for a suitability interview;
4. UNA-Canada will match your skills and interests with one of our UNPP Placements;
5. The selected UNPP host organization may request an interview with you directly;
6. Selection Board. UNA-Canada and the selected UNPP host organization will discuss your application and interview(s) and determine acceptance to the programme;
7. Briefing session and pre-departure logistics assistance;
8. Completion of the placement;
9. Debriefing and continued job search support.
