  • The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations hosts a website that contains useful information relevant to the day at website:  http://www.un.org/ecosocdev/geninfo/women
  • UNIFEM, the UN Development Fund for Women, is the main UN body working for women’s empowerment and gender equality. UNIFEM’S mandate and programme strategies can be viewed at:  http://www.unifem.undp.org/ 
  • The United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW) is responsible for servicing the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), the main UN policy-making body for women. DAW’s role in advancing the status of women can be found at:  http://www.un.org/womenwatch/daw
  • Status of Women Canada (SWC) is the federal government agency that promotes gender equality, and the full participation of women in the economic, social, cultural and political life of Canada.  SWC has information about IWD including an event calendar for 2000 at:      http://www.swc-cfc.gc.ca/iwd/index.html
  • Canadian International Development Agency’s (CIDA) Gender Equality Division, within the Policy Branch, serves to support CIDA management and staff in understanding and implementing CIDA’s Gender Equality Policy, launched in 1999: http://www.acdi-cida.gc.ca/
  • The National Action Committee on the Status of Women (NAC) is an umbrella organization for a coalition of some 700 member groups working on women’s issues.  Women's groups involved with NAC take part in demonstrations, education, letter-writing campaigns, lobbying before provincial and federal committees, international solidarity work, conference organizing, and special-events planning.  They can be reached in Toronto at (416) 932-1718 or email:  mailto:nac@web.net
  •  Match International Centre works in partnership with women’s groups in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and South America towards the empowerment of women and the achievement of the practical enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms through civil, political, economic and cultural justice. MATCH also undertakes public education in Canada on development and women’s issues, and works to build and strengthen the women’s movement nationally and internationally.  Their website is located at:  http://www.web.net/~matchint 
  • The International Council of Women (ICW) is a world-wide federation of National Councils of Women which work together on international issues of concern to women.  ICW has Consultative Status, Category 1, with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC), as well as permanent and accredited representation to such UN agencies as the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).  Their website is located at:  http://www.magma.ca/~ncwc/international.html
  • The National Council of Women of Canada, a member of the International Council of Women works to improve the quality of life for women, families and society, through education and advocacy.   They can be found at:  http://www.magma.ca/~ncwc
  • Voice of Women (VOW) is the only national women's organization promoting Canadian women's perspectives on peace, militarism, human rights and social justice.  VOW conducts study tours, is a registered non-governmental organization with the United Nations, and in 1995 was Canada's lead peace group at the International Women's Conference in Beijing.  They can be reached in Toronto at (416) 603-7915 or email:  mailto:vow@interlog.com
  • Canadian Womens’ Internet Association serves as a resource centre and meeting place for Canadian women, containing hundreds of links to sites relevant to women, with a special focus on Canadian content.  They can be found at:  http://www.herplace.org/
  • Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women (CRIAW) is an organization that supports research projects focusing on women’s issues in Canada.  It also operates a resource centre.  Their website address is http://www.criaw-icref.ca/
