Press Releases UNA-Canada Welcomes New National President Ottawa - Nancy Gordon was elected as the new volunteer National President of the United Nations Association in Canada at its Annual General Meeting on Saturday, 21 September 2002. "I am delighted to be chosen to lead the Board of Directors of this dynamic organization, with which I have been involved for many years," says Ms Gordon. "I look forward to ensuring an organizational environment which facilitates the far-reaching work of the national staff team and the regional volunteer-run branches." Ms Gordon first became involved in UNA-Canada in the 1970s, as a board member of the branch in Brandon, Manitoba. She later worked for the National Office in Ottawa as a Communications Officer and as the Executive Director. Ms Gordon has been the National Vice President of Board for the past three years, and currently works as the Senior Vice President of CARE Canada. Ms Gordon will replace Geoffrey Pearson, whose term limit as National President expired on Saturday. At a special reception, Mr Pearson was thanked and recognized by the Honourable Bill Graham, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, for his hard work and commitment to the Association. Mr Pearson will remain on the Board as Past President. Other National Board members confirmed at the AGM include David Warner as National Vice President, Michael Tinkler as Treasurer/Secretary, Jeff Mackey as Regional Vice President for the Atlantic Provinces, Louis Dussault as Regional Vice President for Québec, Bill Staples as Regional Vice President for Ontario, Aubrey Asper as Regional Vice President for the Prairies and Lyne Desnoyers as Director-at-large (youth). Steve Mason, Executive Director, remains as an ex-officio member of the Board.
