Press Releases UNA-Canada Sends Pan-Canadian Delegations to Simulations in Mexico and Russia 18 February 2003 – The United Nations Association in Canada [UNA-Canada]
is pleased to announce the selection of five high school students and
five university students from across the country to represent Canada
and UNA-Canada’s Model UN Programme at the following simulation events
in Mexico and Russia:
These conferences will bring together students from a number of countries
around the world to engage in the highest caliber of debate and negotiation
around topics that include questions of security in South Asia as a
result of Indo-Pakistani relations, the legality of the use of force
in the former Yugoslavia, trade and integration in the Americas, the
American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Inter-American
Convention against Terrorism. The two pan-Canadian delegations attending these events include team
members from Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta,
British Columbia and Nunavut. A Model United Nations [MUN] is a conference that simulates the activities of specific UN organs, programmes, committees and agencies. Likewise, a Model OAS is a conference that simulated the activities of the Organization of American States. These Models are exciting venues for participants to explore the challenges and rewards related to working in an international setting.
