Youth to Deliver Key Messages for Upcoming World Summit

Ottawa, ON - In recognition of International Youth Day, the theme of which is "Youth Action for Sustainable Development", the United Nations Association in Canada is convening a panel of young experts to deliver their messages for the upcoming World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD).

Geneva Guerin of Canada's Youth Summit Team will address youth expectations for Canada's role at the Summit. Katsitsawonkras Jacobs, also a Youth Summit Team member, will share the unique views of indigenous youth. Both have worked on preparations for the WSSD for over a year through the Youth Agenda 2002 project. The panel will also address youth concerns that have emerged through WSSD preparations, namely Canada's failure to address climate change and ratify the Kyoto Protocol and the critical role of education for sustainable development. Robert Ménard, President of ENvironnement JEUnesse and Lindsay Telfer, National Coordinator of Sierra Youth Coalition will speak to these issues.
