Press Releases United Nations Association in Canada profiles the work of young Canadians to mark World Environment Day June 5 - Ottawa, ON - The United Nations Association in Canada is marking World Environment Day by highlighting the contributions of young Canadians to the UN in areas of the environment. The Association will be joined by The Honourable David Anderson, Minister of the Environment and The Honourable Stephen Owen, Secretary of State, Western Economic Diversification, for a press conference at which three youth will share their current projects. Mr. Tomas Ernst, North America's representative to the United Nations Environment Programme's (UNEP) Youth Advisory Council, will speak about UNEP's youth engagement strategy and its impact on global governance of the environment. To underscore the importance of this day for the International Year of Freshwater, Ms. Chantal Ayotte will share her work on "The Cycle of Water", a project unfolding across Québec that was nominated for a Water Action prize at the World Water Forum in Japan. Ms. Rebecca Dixon, who received a Millennium Dreamers award from UNESCO and attended the International Children's Conference on the Environment, will speak about linking global concerns to local action. "Canada has a long-standing record of contributions to all areas of the UN. The work of these young Canadians is proof that protecting our global environment is no exception," notes Steve Mason, Executive Director of the United Nations Association in Canada.
