UNA-Canada sends Team CANIMUN Mission to Beijing

02 June 2004 – The United Nations Association in Canada [UNA-Canada] is pleased to announce the selection of four university students from British Colombia, Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick to represent Canada and UNA-Canada’s Model UN Programme at the Asia-Pacific Model United Nations Conference taking place in Beijing, China, from 19-21 August 2004.

The Asia-Pacific Model UN Conference is organized by the World Federation of United Nations Associations [WFUNA]. WFUNA, a parent organization for UN Associations worldwide, was created in 1946 as the people's movement for the UN to inform, sustain and energize a global network of UN Associations in support for the principles and programs of the UN. This is the first time WFUNA will be organizing a Model UN Conference and UNA-Canada is honored to have been invited to represent China at the various discussions.

In addition to playing the role of the Chinese delegation at the simulation event, UNA-Canada will facilitate a training workshop for UNA representatives from the Asia-Pacific region interested in fostering a Model UN network in their own countries. To date, Team CANIMUN missions have included representatives from every province in Canada and Nunavut. The initiative, funded by the Public Diplomacy Programme at Foreign Affairs Canada, represents a clear means by which to foster connectivity between young Canadians from different regions of the country while promoting Canadian cultural values among international youth in a global setting.
