Press Releases UN Association Releases New Report on Youth and the Global HIV/AIDS Crisis 25 June 2002 - Today the United Nations Association in Canada (UNA-Canada) is releasing a report on youth and the HIV/AIDS crisis. Youth involved in the research said that conventional approaches are not working. The report proposes youth-driven action ideas for making our responses to the crisis more effective. "Youth are one of the most vulnerable groups when it comes to HIV/AIDS," says Steve Mason, Executive Director of UNA-Canada. "Governments from all over the world, including Canada, agreed last year at the United Nations that young people's perspectives and their full involvement in all aspects of HIV/AIDS work and decision-making are crucial." Youth and the Global HIV/AIDS Crisis: A Tool-kit for Action also looks at what youth around the world are doing to address the pandemic. Stories from Kenya, the US, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Canada will inspire readers to play their own role in the global fight against HIV/AIDS. The report (available in print and at www.unac.org/en/link_learn/index.asp) was written by UNA-Canada and Erin Brown, Beth Collison, and Nancy Rogers-Currie of Carleton University's Master's of Social Work Program. It was produced with financial support from the Canadian Centre for Foreign Policy Development. For further information: Christine Parsons, (613) 232-5751 ext. 240, or christine@unac.org
