Press Releases It's Time to Act gives voice to Canadian Youth at the UN May 24th Ottawa, 2006-UNA-Canada brings the story of infected, affected, seemingly un-affected Canadian Youth to the United Nations. May 29th to June 2nd New York- marks the 2006 General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS. The General Assembly is opening the floor to international Civil Society and noting their vital role in how to collaboratively and effectively combat HIV/AIDS. Each day 6000 young people aged 15-24 become infected with HIV/AIDS. In Canada, Women represent an increasing proportion of those with positive HIV test results. These infections are through heterosexual encounters. These are the stories behind the numbers that UNA-Canada will share with the General Assembly. UNA-Canada Project Officers will share their lessons learned of the scope of HIV/AIDS and youth in the Canadian context. Civil Society voices will contribute to the 2006 General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS And the next steps of the International Declaration of Commitment. It's time to Act! Mobilizing Young Canadians Around HIV/AIDS is an initiative that engages youth who are infected, affected and unaware of HIV/AIDS, in a series of cross-country regional forums, to build capacity for action around the prevention and management of HIV/AIDS. This project looks at the impacts of the Social Determinants of Health and youth's ability to make informed choices in the face of this epidemic. UNA-Canada is a national charitable organization celebrating its landmark 60th anniversary. As a 'think and do' organization, UNA-Canada supports a network of fifteen volunteer branches with a National office in Ottawa and Western professional office in Vancouver.
