Press Releases UNA-Canada Prepares for WUF3 Ottawa-(March, 6th 2006) Youth of Today, City of Tomorrow is UNA-Canada's unique interpretation in the form of an innovative educational programme on the central themes surrounding the third session of the World Urban Forum (WUF 3). The goal of the project is to utilize a series of research papers commissioned by Western Economic Diversification (WD) surrounding the issues of sustainability that will be addressed at WUF 3. This project will raise awareness and elicit active community participation at WUF 3, while fostering a legacy of understanding in young Western Canadians on human settlement issues and the ability of their communities to address these issues. UNA-Canada will be creating a step-by-step resource guide to be disseminated to Regional Coordinators in the BC region to further implement within their specified communities. Regional Coordinators will be selected and trained by our head-office. The resource guide will be piloted in the key geographical region of British Columbia and will culminate in the organization and presentation of a Model UN HABITAT simulation. Youth of Today, City of Tomorrow, will utilize a highly interactive and user-friendly website to also serve as a resource for the programme. High-profile Public Service Announcements in the mediums of T.V, Radio and Print will be produced and disseminated throughout the province to brand UNA-Canada, promote Youth of Today, City of Tomorrow and to increase awareness of WUF 3. WUF 3 The World Urban Forum was established by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanisation and its impact on communities, cities, economies and policies. According to the UNHABITAT website "It is projected that in the next fifty years, two-thirds of humanity will be living in towns and cities." The third session of the World Urban Forum will take place in Vancouver June 19-23, 2006. UNA-Canada is a national charitable organization that is celebrating its landmark 60th anniversary. As a 'think and do' organization, UNA-Canada supports a network of fifteen volunteer branches from our headquarters in Ottawa. Ever creative and innovative its mandate is to engage Canadians in the work of the UN and the critical global issues which affect us all.
