Emergency in Haiti

BREAKING NEWS: All donations will be matched by the Government of Canada.

Your help is urgently needed. By DONATING NOW you become a partner with the United Nations as it helps Haiti - the Western Hemisphere's poorest country.

It's at this time of destruction and grief that we must stand with Haiti.

No one can see the scenes from Port-au-Prince and not be moved. As apparent as the direct loss of life is, so too are the miserable poverty and desperate conditions that border on hopelessness.

But there IS hope - and in Haiti it is often the familiar UN 'blue' that provides that symbol of hope.

Heartbreakingly, many of the UN humanitarian workers, peacekeepers and leaders have suffered the worst fate, along with thousands of Haitians. In the worst single instance of human loss in the UN's 65 year history, 37 UN staff, police and peacekeepers have already been confirmed as victims of the earthquake. Some 160 are missing. Among the missing is the UN Chief of the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), Hédi Annabi of Tunisia. A second Canadian RCMP officer there to help train Haiti police is also among those unaccounted for.

One needs only refer to any news source to witness the magnitude of this crisis. It is estimated that over 2 million souls have been affected in one way or another.

Canada's ties with Haiti are strong. Our ties with the UN are strong. Our commitment to the delivery of development aid and humanitarian assistance is also strong.

The UN has been working on the ground since the first hour after the catastrophic quake and it will continue to be your presence in Haiti, both during the immediate humanitarian response to the devastation, as well as for long-term reconstruction. Please help by donating right now. By donating to UN relief efforts through UNA-Canada, you will receive a Canadian charitable tax receipt for 100% of your donation and know that you will be supporting our most important international body for peace, health and prosperity - the United Nations.

To donate to the United Nations through UNA-Canada (to receive a Canadian charitable tax receipt) donate on-line, or download our Haiti Relief form and send your donation to UNA-Canada, 300-309 Cooper Street, Ottawa, ON, K2P 0G5.
