The UN and Peacekeeping

In 1998, the United Nations celebrated its 50th anniversary of its peacekeeping operations. However, in 1956, thanks to a resolution submitted before the General Assembly by the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs at the time, Lester B. Pearson, that the first "Blue Helmet" mission to the Suez Canal took place. These peacekeeping missions are one of the ways available to the United Nations to maintain international peace and security. These "Blue Helmets" are soldiers sent by their respective countries and whose duty is to ensure that peace be maintained. The contribution of these "Blue Helmets" to international peace and security was acknowledged in 1988 and in 1998 when the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded them.
