In our day-to-day task of providing Canadians with information about
the United Nations, we at the United Nations Association in Canada are
often asked about Canadian contributions to the development and work
of the UN. There is a continuous tradition of participation in, and
support for, the wide-flung family of institutions which, taken together,
comprise the UN system. Every successive Canadian Government has place
the UN as a central component of its foreign policy, and individual
Canadians have played seminal roles in the work of the Organization
as it evolved since its inception in 1945. The following notes highlight
this proud tradition.
