The United Nations operates a large number of agencies and programmes
to assist people. Canadians have served the UN with distinction in many
such areas. The following list includes a couple of these individuals.

Actively involved in UNA-Canada at both the local (Vancouver Branch)
and the national levels. The primary activist behind the creation
of a UN pavillion at Expo 86 in Vancouver. Deeply involved in the
enhancement of the status of indigenous peoples in a global context. |

Member of the Council of the United Nations University (UNU) since
1992 and Chairman of the Council since 1995. |

Commissioner on the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and
Cultural Organizations (UNESCO) International Commission for
the study of Communication Problem, the report of which, Many Voices,
One World, has become a standard reference work in communications
and journalism. |
