Programme of Work 2002 > Internal Governance

Overall governance of structure and strategic direction of the United Nations Association in Canada is the role and responsibility of the National Board of Directors. The internal governance of the National Office of the Association, however, is the responsibility of the Executive Director in conjunction with the Management Committee. Internal governance comprises issues related to staff and staffing, the management of office systems, the use of existing funds, the delineation of new project and programme areas and the formation of National Office policies.

The main goal of internal governance in 2002 is to create an office environment which is open, accountable and ethical. The following priorities are key in order to realize this goal:

  • focusing on the well-being and organizational satisfaction of staff members and the staff team;
  • ensuring clear channels for the flow of information and decision-making;
  • ensuring decisions which are in-line with the overall direction and programme of work of the organization;
  • ensuring that funds are used in a fashion which is transparent, accountable and in-line with organizational priorities;
  • creating and maintaining solid, ethical policies which govern the conduct of the organization and its staff team;
  • ensuring that all policies are clearly understood so that the organization presents a common front to the outside world;
  • fostering professional relationships within the office;
  • maintaining a safe work environment with functional and efficient systems; and
  • enabling the various teams and individuals in the office to work together productively when beneficial or necessary.
  • ensuring an inclusive and broad process to determine the Programme of Work for 2003.
