Final Message from Harry Qualman as Executive Director This is my last message to the members and donors supporting the United Nations Association in Canada and to all other friends. I want to thank all of you for your support and devotion to our organization over the past five years. By working together, we have built a stronger organization. While last year was a difficult one financially due to the fact that our fundraising Galas and corporate fundraising were not as successful as in previous years, we can take satisfaction in the progress our organization is making in terms of programmes. Our youth internship programmes are a particular source of pride as we provide opportunities for young Canadians to help build a better UN system. Our work on Model UNs has helped enrich the lives of thousands of young Canadians. Our work on the culture of peace over the past year helps build a citizenry which values non-violence rather than violence. In early 2001, we got confirmation of a major new programme concerning anti-racism education for young people. I'm delighted that we are working in this key area which is vital to the future of our country. Our work with youth on sustainable development, our work to provide resources on refugees, our work to educate school children about the UN, and our youth action training courses on human rights for young people are all additional sources of pride. As I leave UNA-Canada, and turn the directorship over to our new Interim Executive Director, Steve Mason, I leave with confidence concerning the future of our Association. We now have a modest reserve fund. I will hope that over the next few years it will continue to grow and that people will decide to include UNA-Canada in their estate planning so that we can establish a permanent foundation to ensure the future of our organization.
Thanks to you all for helping us to build a strong organization which is having a positive impact on the lives of so many Canadians. Thanks to the government agencies, the corporations, the unions, the religious groups, the foundations, and the thousands of individual Canadians who believe that a strong United Nations is vital to a sane future for all of us!
