Staff Changes
By Joan Broughton, Information Officer and Elliott Spagat, Communications Officer

A wonderful gathering was held on April 28 of both current staff and local Board members and friends who had worked in the UNA-Canada office in various capacities over nearly three decades, as we bid a fond farewell to Shirley McColgan. Five of the eight Executive Directors under whom she worked were able to join the party. For most of thirty years Shirley has quietly and diligently served this Association as secretary, and then bookkeeper. She has seen us through many ups and downs and always retained a sense of optimism and commitment. Her mince tarts were always a special part of Christmas parties. All of us wish her well in retirement, as she turns her attention full-time to family, music, church and other passions.

Other staff changes:

UNA-Canada is pleased to welcome our new Financial Clerk, Pauline Carriere. She will be helping with the bookkeeping of the organization, as well as helping with the Internship Programme and other administrative duties.

Elizabeth Ross from Calgary, has recently joined us as Public Relations Officer. She is an intern with the Youth International Internship Programme and will be spending three months with UNDP in New York.

Daniel Poon and Greg Little, both hailing from Vancouver, have joined the office as part of our internal internship programme. Dan and Greg will be working on the Culture of Peace project that was started by Geneviève Talbot and Boris Jacouty.

Our Information Officer, George Roberts, left UNA-Canada in April to pursue other opportunities.

Elliott Spagat, our Communications Officer, has decided to move back to his hometown of Toronto to further his career in public relations.

Geneviève Talbot, former Peace and Security Officer, will be heading off to Ecuador in July to take part in an internship with UNDP. Her assistant, Boris Jacouty, returned to France at the end of June to fulfill his military commitment.

We would like to welcome all the new members of the UNA-Canada team and to wish those who are moving on the best of luck in the future. Your commitment and support of the organization was greatly appreciated.
