Muriel H. Duckworth

Mrs. Muriel H. Duckworth of Halifax was selected as the recipient of the Pearson Peace Medal for 1991. His Excellency the Rt. Hon. Ramon John Hnatyshyn, Governor General of Canada, presented the medal to Mrs. Duckworth in his capacity as the Honorary Patron of UNA-Canada on October 22, 1991, in Rideau Hall.

Each year, the Association awards the Pearson Peace Medal to a Canadian who has personally contributed to those causes which Lester B. Pearson promoted during his distinguished career.

Mrs. Duckworth has been involved in recent years with Peace Fund Canada, the World Federalists of Canada and the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women (which presents its own Muriel Duckworth Award each year to a feminist who has contributed to the advancement of women). Mrs. Duckworth is a founding member of several organizations including the Canadian Council for International Cooperation (1968) and Voice for Women Canada (1960), where she served as president from 1967-1971.

The Halifax-Dartmouth Branch held an evening to celebrate Mrs. Duckworth’s recognition which was attended by representatives of the numerous organizations with which she has been involved.
