How it Works
Building Young Entrepreneurs has three main components: skills training, networking and work-integrated learning. Skills training takes place in a two day core workshop and monthly follow-up workshops, including sessions on the following topics:
-
Resume and cover letter writing
-
Communication skills
-
Financial literacy
-
Workplace etiquette and respect
-
Teamwork and interpersonal relations
-
Time Management Skills
-
Entrepreneurship Basics
Following the training, participants are given opportunities for work-integrated learning through an 8-16 week internship with a local business or organization. They can also participate in job shadowing and observe a professional at their job for 3-5 days. Some examples of past internships include:
-
Accounts Intern at Property Management firm in Toronto
-
Veterinary Assistant at an Animal Hospital in Vancouver
-
Telephone banking position with CIBC - Halifax
-
Administrative Assistant at a private notary firm - Edmonton
Throughout this journey, participants are offered a professional mentor and networking opportunities, including a National Expo.

After the Internship
Many Building Young Entrepreneurs participants choose to stay with the employers they interned with for a longer term; others resume their job-hunt with a new-and-improved resume. Some choose to pursue further education for a specific job. Wherever their careers takes them, UNA-Canada is here to support them.
Our peer mentoring programme allows programme participants to connect with past participants, young Canadian entrepreneurs, and like-minded individuals in a network of knowledge-sharing and support.
The participants will also have the opportunity to showcase their new skills and / or business ventures at a National Expo in June 2020. This will give them the exposure needed to excel in their careers.
