Participating in Building Young Entrepreneurs

How it Works

Building Young Entrepreneurs has two main components: the training and the internship. The training takes place over two days and includes sessions on the following topics:

  • Resume and cover letter writing

  • Communication skills

  • Financial literacy

  • Economic Basics

  • Workplace etiquette and respect

  • Teamwork and interpersonal relations

  • Time Management Skills

  • Entrepreneurship Basics

Following the training, participants are matched with a local opportunity in a business or organization. After the internship, organizations will provide participants with constructive feedback on their performance and tips for future employment. Some examples of past internships include:

  • Accounts Intern at Property Management firm in Toronto

  • Veterinary Assistant at an Animal Hospital in Vancouver

  • Telephone banking position with CIBC - Halifax

  • Administrative Assistant at a private notary firm - Edmonton

Participant Eligibility

If you live in one of our target cities, you are between the ages of 18-29, and you are un- or under-employed, apply now!

To learn more and to participate, please contact Sarah Kambites at [email protected].

Building Young Entrepreneurs operates in the following locations:

Edmonton, (2016- current)
Halifax, (2016-2017; 2017-current)
Toronto, (2014-2016; 2016-2017 and 2017-current)
Vancouver, (2016-2017; 2017-current)
Winnipeg, (2014-2016)

After the Internship

Many Building Young Entrepreneurs participants choose to stay with the employers they interned with for a longer term; others resume their job-hunt with a new-and-improved resume. Some choose to pursue further education for a specific job. Wherever their careers takes them, UNA-Canada is here to support them.

Our peer mentoring programme allows programme participants to connect with past participants, young Canadian entrepreneurs, and like-minded individuals in a network of knowledge-sharing and support.

The participants will also have the opportunity to showcase their new skills and / or business ventures in a local and national expo. This will give them the exposure needed to excel in their careers.
